Mr. James O. Gorman... has been appointed manager of the Live Oak in place of George R. Smith, resigned. (Boston Globe, August 9, 1877, pg. 5) Prior to taking over as manager, he umpired games for the Lynn club. Newspapers from the 1877 season give his name as both James O. Gorman and James O'Gorman.
