In 1887 Goodwin & Co. also issued cards in packs of the Gypsy Queen cigarettes, a release now designated as N175. It included mostly baseball players; a few cards with boxers also are known to exist. The cards used the same photos as used in the N172 cards, but included a large arch at the top containing the words "Gypsy Queen". The players and poses known appear to match the Old Judge N172 cards released early in the Old Judge N172 series, suggesting a release date in mid-1887 for the Gypsy Queen set. Included in the Gypsy Queen release were all 13 of the Browns Champions cards found in the N172 set. Somewhere around 160 different Gypsy Queen cards are known to exist.
In addition to the standard Gypsy Queen cards, measuring about 1.5" x 2.5", there are nine different cards in a larger format (2" x 3.5"). None of these players are from St. Louis. The means for distributing these cards is not known. These cards are extremely rare. Shortly before the book on the N172 card set was published, a third type of Gypsy Queen card turned up in an online auction, featuring a player from a team based in Oakland. Nothing is known about how or where this card may have been distributed.
