This set was issued by the American Tobacco Company in 1911. It contains 208 cards, some of which have several variations. American League players are framed by a diamond border, while National League payers have a simpler colored backgrouns and a facsimile autograph. (This is believed to be the first time autographs appear on a baseball card.) There are 12 minor leaguers in the set. Card backs contain stats on the back (except for the minor leaguers. All of the cards contain a gold leaf border, for which the set is named. Beacuse of the border, cards are hard to find in high grade condition.
