The St. Louis Player Database

Welcome to the St. Louis Player Database, a reference site with information on major league baseball players who have played with a St. Louis club. Currently, the database spans the years from 1871 to 2014. It includes career stats for all St. Louis players, and for players who appeared with the Cardinals from 1970 onward, a notation about when and how that player joined the organization, and when and how they left. As with any project such as this, there are bound to be a few bugs, so please let me know if you find any errors. For more about the database, click here.

The database can be searched by player or team, using the forms below. Please do not try to dump too much information from the database at once - restrict your searches to a specific season to reduce the load on the server.

Draft database

Prior to the draft, amateur players were free to sign with any club for any amount. This led to wealthier clubs stockpiling talent in their minor league systems. A Bonus System, implimented in 1947, did little to solve the problem, and at the 1964 Winter Meetings, the clubs voted to have an amateur drfat system. While four clubs openly opposed the plan (the Yankees, the Dodgers, the Cardinals and the Mets), only the Cardinals voted against the proposition in the end. In June of 1965, the first draft was held, and until 1986 drafts were held in both January and June. After 1986, the draft process was reduced to one draft in June. While the draft used to have unlimited rounds, it is now fixed at 40 rounds.
