Game 5: May 6, 1888

St. Louis 6, Minneapolis 2
Record: 4-1

Staley struck out six and scattered seven hits in allowing only two runs (one earned). The Whites bunched their hits to score six runs on six hits. Beckley had two hits and two stolen bases. The game lasted 1 hour and 50 minutes.

Alcott started at third base for the Whites for the second straight game. It was his last game for the Whites, as he was released the next day. He was 3-5 in his first start, and 0-4 in this game, and only 10 for 57 in spring training. The Sporting Life noted that Alcott "was a good thrower, be he could not run the bases, and as a sticker he did not amount to much." Jack Crooks took over as the regular third baseman for the Whites.
