St. Louis 7, MAAC 5

The Whites formally disbanded on June 23, 1888. Unfortunately for them, they gave an encore performance with a charity game against the Missouri Amateur Athletic Club on June 24. Their lineup included Devlin in right field, as was planned against Des Moines. Nyce started for the Whites, and Murphy started for MAAC.

The Whites jumped into the lead with three runs in the top of the first, but the MAAC scored three in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. Both the Globe Democrat and the Republican noted that if Murphy had better support, the MAAC would have won the game. Devlin relieved Nyce in sixth inning and allowed only one run in his four innings. He also had three hits, while Burch had two hits and scored three runs. The Whites won by a score of 7-5.

After the game the remainder of the team scattered. Dolan and Cantz were transferred to the Browns. Dolan appeared in 11 games and hit .194 in his last stint in the majors. Cantz was released to Baltimore in July without ever appearing in a game for the Browns. Arundel was signed by Washington, where he was reunited with Ted Sullivan, who managed him previously at Memphis and Milwaukee. Nicholson returned to play with Wheeling. He made his major league debut with Detroit late in the season. Nyce returned to his home before signing with Hamilton in the International League. He would be out of professional baseball after 1890. Kenyon went back to Burlington. He would also play just one more season, in the Western Association in 1889 with Des Moines. Burch retired to his ranch in the Dakotas, but came back for a couple of seasons with Peoria. Hines was out of baseball in 1889, but would return in 1890 and play a total of 19 seasons in the minors. He played two games with Brooklyn in 1895.

The attendance at the charity game was reported to be around 1000 people. Given that lack of attendance was one of the reasons the Whites folded, there is an irony to this crowd total. Similarly, a crowd of 5000 was reported in attendance for an MAAC game in late May. For whatever reason, the Whites did not get much support from St. Louis.
