The St. Paul Globe seemed to be too verklempt over the outcome of the game to write anything about it (see below), while the Globe Democrat and Chicago Tribune noted that St. Paul seemed unable to get a hit when need to drive in runs. The Minneapolis Star Tribune was more descriptive, noting that "the umpiring was rank and the decisions were invariably in favor of the visitors. His calling of balls and strikes was most palpably in favor of St. Louis." It seems that the umpiring had a lot to do with the Whites winning two of three in this series against St. Paul. Given how the remainder of their road trip (and indeed existence) would go, they needed all the help they could get. This was the last win the club would record. It seems like not only the umpiring was rank, as of the 10 runs scored, only 2 were earned. Nicholson scored a run by reaching on an error, stealing second, and then advancing the rest of the way around on two wild pitches. Two other St. Louis runners scored after advancing on passed balls. (Arundel had three passed balls and St. Paul catcher Ringo had four, while the pitchers had three wild pitches between them.) The Whites managed to string together their nine hits (8 singles) to score in five of the eight innings they batted. They won the game by a score of 7-3 and the series 2 games to 1.
