The Whites won the second game of the series from Des Moines as Nyce pitched a 2-0 shutout, probably his best start of the season. Crooks scored the first run in the fourth. After a single and stolen base, he advanced to third on Burch's out and scored on Herr's sacrifice. Herr also hit a home run (his third of the season) to left field out onto Spring Avenue for the second run. Des Moines out-hit the Whites but were unable to score any runs. Arundel and Crooks were credited with fine defense in the eighth to keep Des Moines from scoring. (From the various descriptions, it sounds like Arundel may have picked off at least one runner from third.) Herr hit four home runs for the Whites in 1888, tops on the club. He hit three more for the Browns later in the summer. The previous season a Lincoln, he hit 13 home runs. Game three against Des Moines was scheduled for May 24, but the game was rained out. The rainout left the Whites with their second series sweep of the season, the first being against Milwaukee to open the year. That series also featured a rainout of one of the three scheduled games.
