Edward Callahan joined the Buckeyes late in 1876. In the spring of 1877, there was a dispute between the Buckeyes and the Alaskas of New York as to whom had signed Callahan for the 1877 season. He ended up with Columbus for the season. The Sporting Life reported in 1890 that he had been killed in a railway accident in 1878 or 1879 (June 21, 1890, pg. 6).
